This qualification helps students develop their English language skills. It will also develop language, literacy and numeracy skills to undertake further education and training activities, gain confidence in daily living, seek and engage in work and participate in the Australian culture and the community.
This course is delivered from Lonsdale Institute’s Melbourne and Sydney city campuses. Melbourne is located at 277 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, Victoria. Sydney is located at 72 Bathurst Street, Sydney, New South Wales.
Delivery of the course is based on 25 hours face to face delivery per week over a period of 20 weeks delivered over 1 semester. This course is available online, classroom and blended delivery and as face to face delivery only for overseas student visa holders. In addition, students are expected to undertake 35 hours per week of self study.
This course is delivered over 20 weeks. However, depending on the time of enrolment and holiday periods throughout the year, the total duration of the course could be up to 26 weeks (including holidays).
A variety of methods are incorporated into the course to accommodate different learning styles. These include project work, reports, portfolio development as well as individual presentations.
> Students must be 18 years of age or over;
> Demonstrate an English language proficiency level equivalent to either:
a) Level 1 + of the International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISPLR)
b) IELTS Level 4;
c) ACSF level 3

After achieving the Certificate III in Spoken and Written English, candidates may undertake a Certificate IV in Spoken and Written English – Further Studies course.
