Certificate II in Spoken and Written English

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course provides an introduction and foundation to learning English in a Vocational framework. It provides introductory level skills and practice in a variety of areas that include social and practical life skills.

Content covers job seeking and preparation as well as the ability to understand everyday content in English like instructions and news items, the delivery builds confidence in comprehension and communication skills in a supportive and positive environment.

Location of Course Delivery

This course is delivered from Lonsdale Institute’s Melbourne and Sydney city campuses. Melbourne is located at 277 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, Victoria. Sydney is located at 72 Bathurst Street, Sydney, New South Wales.

Delivery Approach and Mode

Delivery of the course is based on 25 hours face to face delivery per week over a period of 20 weeks delivered over 1 semester.

Course Duration

This course is delivered over 20 weeks which is based on 25 hours of face to face delivery per week. However, depending on the time of enrolment and holiday periods throughout the year, the total duration of the course could be up to 28 weeks (including holidays).

Delivery and Assessment

A variety of methods are incorporated into the course to accommodate different learning styles. These include project work, reports, portfolio development as well as individual presentations.

Entry Requirements

Learners entering this level of the CSWE curriculum framework are identified as post-beginners.

For example, entry point against the International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) scale is 1 across the four macro skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Entry point against the Australian Core Skills Framework(ACSF) is Level 2.

After achieving the Certificate II in Spoken and Written English, candidates may undertake the Certificate III in Spoken and Written English
